Cas Lane $100m Boost to NT Economy

October 30, 2026

Casuarina Square owners and managers Sentinel Property Group has celebrated the opening of a new indoor entertainment and lifestyle precinct that is a key part of an ambitious $100 million redevelopment of the Northern Territory’s largest shopping centre.

Northern Territory Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro today (Wednesday October 28) officially opened Cas Lane, which has replaced The Quarter. Cas Lane’s family-friendly facilities are fully enclosed and air-conditioned for customer comfort to beat the heat in Darwin, and with improved communal areas.

As well as Cas Lane, the redevelopment of Casuarina Square, which Sentinel purchased for $418 million in 2022 from GPT Group, also includes expanded undercover parking, an upgraded Woolworths Mall, the NT’s first Woolworths direct-to-boot service, a new service station under long-term lease to Silo and a new passenger drop-off zone at Cas Lane.

Sentinel planned and completed the redevelopment with the support of builder Sunbuild, architect Andy Ong from Hames Sharley and engineers ADG & HK Solutions.

“This investment represents a strong vote of confidence in Darwin and the NT’s future, supporting local businesses, creating opportunities for employment and further strengthening Casuarina Square as one of the Top End’s premier retail and entertainment destinations,” said Sentinel CEO Warren Ebert.

“We are delighted to have delivered the new Cas Lane precinct which has already attracted some outstanding national businesses including family entertainment centre iPlay, World Gym, eateries Kickin’ Inn and Grill’d, and fro-yo sensation Yo-Chi, which has already enjoyed record-breaking patronage.

“Casuarina Square has deserved a dining and entertainment precinct like Cas Lane since the centre opened in 1973.

“We believe we have created a game-changing precinct that will boost economic development and reinforce the centre as Darwin’s major destination for shopping, dining and community connection.

“Every man, woman and child in Darwin goes to Casuarina Square at least four times a month. It is at the heart of the community, and we are very excited about the centre’s future.”

The redevelopment of the centre, which includes the opening of the new Woolworths supermarket, builds on successes already achieved by Sentinel to make Casuarina Square more comfortable and safe.

“Since the CLP government under Lia Finocchiaro came to power two years ago with a pledge to crack down on crime in the NT, particularly youth crime, there has been a marked reduction in this sort of activity at Casuarina Square,” Mr Ebert said.

“The government’s decision to close the bus interchange was also instrumental in helping improve safety for both customers and retailers. We are delighted that businesses at Casuarina Square have enjoyed increased sales with the focus on significantly improving safety at the centre and the CLP government’s commitment to tackle the scourge of crime in the Territory.”

Casuarina Square is conveniently located in Darwin’s north and draws customers from all over Greater Darwin and beyond. The centre has more than 180 specialty stores, a gross lettable area of 55,000 sqm and 2,453 car parking spaces. Key retailers and majors including Kmart, Big W, JB Hi-Fi, Coles, Woolworths, BCC Cinemas and Mecca.
