City Beat – Land of Borat
May 10, 2019
Poor Kazakhstan. the central Asian nation, formerly under the Soviet yoke, has never really recovered since it was mercilessly skewered 13 years ago by comedian Sacha Baron Cohen in the guise of clueless local Borat Sagdiyev.
But Sentinel Property Group supremo Warren Ebert and his longtime lieutenant, Michael Sherlock, found recently that it was no backwater.
“Well, the capital could not be further from this Borat portrayal as what you see is a modern, futuristic, well laid out, planned city of one million happy inhabitants – like a tasteful Dubai,” Ebert told us.
The Brisbane-based duo, who have visited dozens of countries around the world, found themselves in Borat’s homeland after a shopping centre conference in Hong Kong.
